Student Profile: Kera Daughtery

Kera Daughtery is a self-proclaimed country girl from Texarkana, but she’s not content to stay in that slow-paced environment. She’s only a junior at Texas State, and she’s already creative directing in the STEM Community with Dean Galloway, a TedX Intern and the Honors Association President.

Kera is a junior majoring in Electronic Media with minors in Honors Studies and Women’s Studies. It took her a few tries to find a major she loved, but now she’s excited to start her own content creation business that empowers women and people of color.

It was basically everything I ever wanted

While Kera has this impressive list of accomplishments, getting there wasn’t easy. Last summer, she had to take a semester off and move home because of a family crisis. Without wifi or much cell service, she spent that semester working on herself.

“It was just me and books and my thoughts,” Kera said. “Sometimes it's okay to take time away from normal life.”

She got creative with painting, writing poetry and figuring out what she wants to do in the future. Now she’s back on campus and taking Bill Poston’s Housley Principled Leadership Course.

“It really feels like me reflecting on everything in my personal discovery,” Kera said.
