Student Spotlight: Carter Williams

Meet Carter Williams, a senior at Texas State University studying Outdoor Recreation with a minor in Criminal Justice. Originally from Lufkin, Texas,  coming to Texas State University was about more than just academics—it was about finding a fresh start in a new environment that aligned with his passion for the outdoors.

His love for nature and community led Carter to become deeply involved on campus. He currently serves as the President of a student-led hunting organization, Texas Trophy Hunters Association. Texas State TTHA is a nonprofit that gives back to the hunting community through volunteer work and events. Since taking on the role last fall, Carter has worked to grow the organization’s presence on campus and create more opportunities for students who share his interests.

“I love how easy it is to make new friends in the org—everyone’s welcoming and like-minded,” he said.

he said.

Outside of his campus involvement, Carter’s dedication extends to his career goals. He has plans to attend the game warden academy after graduation. He hopes to become a recognized and respected figure in wildlife law enforcement. Eventually, he would love to have a highway named after him.

Carter’s resume already reflects his drive and leadership. He completed an internship with the Corps of Engineers at Canyon Lake and organized a successful fundraising banquet for his organization. Carter’s dedication in everything he does shines through inside and outside of the classroom.

A big source of motivation for Carter is his grandfather, who he highlights as a people person everyone loved. “He was my role model. I want to be a good guy just like he was.”

Carter credits Texas State for helping him develop professionalism and sharpen his people skills—qualities he knows will be essential in his future career. Friends and peers describe him as kind, outgoing, and easy to talk to—traits that are evident from the moment you meet him.
