HISTORY OF THE SCHOLARSHIP

The Luce Family has a long history of caring about the growth and development of students at Christoval High School.  In 1980, the Luce’s moved to the small town for Coach Buddy Luce to take over the head football coaching role. Over the span of 30+ years, Buddy, Julie and Marilyn Luce impacted thousands of students’ lives serving as teachers, principals, coaches, and mentors in this community.  Bobby graduated from CHS in 1987 and Susan followed in 1993, both active in athletic and academic endeavors there. They also both attended Texas State University with Bobby earning his Sports Medicine degree in 1992 and Susan earning her BA in English and Master’s in Education in 1997 and 2005 respectively. In 2023 Susan, and her husband Jeremy, approached their family about offering the Cougar Pride Aspire to Excellence Award to a deserving student at Christoval High.
